War is a card game in which each player bets against the croupier about having a card of higher value. For this the croupier deals every player and himself/herself a face up card and then compares the values of these.
In a first phase each player can place two bets, an initial bet that is mandatory, in which he bets on that he will beat the croupier, and the “Push” or “Tie” bet that is optional. After dealing one card to each player and one card for the house, the croupier pays out the winning hands and tie bets. In the event there is a tie between the player and the croupier, but no “Tie” bet has been placed in the first phase, the player may choose to “surrender”, losing half his/her initial bet, or “to go to war”, doubling his/her initial bet.
With new cards being dealt, if the player’s card is higher than the croupier’s, the player will get the whole pot, i.e., the initial bet and the “go to war” bet. On the contrary, if the croupier’s card is higher than the player’s, the player loses his bet and, finally, if the player’s card and the croupier’s card are equal, the player gets the pot and, on top of that, is paid a bonus identical to his/her initial bet.
The game is played with 6 to 8 decks of 52 cards, all with the same design on the back (motif). Each card keeps the face value, from 2 to 10, the Jack (J) will be counted as 11, the Queen (Q) as 12, the King (K) as 13 and the Ace (A) as 14. The Ace will be always the highest card.
To shuffle and begin the game a minimum of one player is required. At each table a maximum of 6 seated players can participate.
